Don't Ask, Don't Tell.....

"So it was okay to waterboard a guy 80 times but God forbid the guy who could understand what that prick was saying has a boyfriend?"

A storm is brewing over President Obama's refusal to intercede on the behalf of Dan Choi, an Arabic translator and lieutenant in the U.S. Army who was just dismissed for being gay. Choi went on the "Rachel Maddow Show" last week and said he intends "to fight it tooth and nail," and that this kind of behavior "weakens the military." 54 Arabic translators (and hundreds more servicemen) have been dismissed from the Army due to their sexuality.

The most trusted journalist for 18 - 35 year olds?

I've been reading about the 18-35 year old demographics.....that the Facebook generation who watches Jon Stewart and The Daily Show is a really big number. When asked if they watch the 'news', they respond affirmatively. They identify The Daily Show as a news show, not as a comedy show. I thought that was interesting. They respect the irreverance of The Daily Show. They like that Jon Stewart isn't owned by a media cartel. They view The Daily Show as more truthful than network news. And even though I'm not in that demographic, I watch and laugh and respect Jon Stewart. When pressed beyond comedic spins, he holds up a standard that a lot of journalists forgot about, or maybe never learned. Here's an example...

Susan Boyle Sets an Online Record -- Bringing Joy to 66 million people in one week

By now, everyone has probably watched Susan Boyle, a Scottish singer's audition video? On YouTube, Susan Boyle's performance has been viewed over 66 million times in one week..... so the Internet is her stage, and the 47-year-old who has said she's never heard of YouTube is the Web's hottest entertainer.

According to Visible Measures, which tracks videos from YouTube, MySpace and other video-sharing sites, Boyle's audition has generated 66.3 million views. On YouTube alone, it's been viewed more than 30 million times. The 7-minute video that was posted on YouTube last Saturday and then widely circulated online easily eclipsed more high-profile videos that have been around for months. Tina Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin has clocked in 34.2 million views, said the folks at Visible Measures, while President Obama's victory speech on election night has generated 18.5 million views. In less than a week, Boyle topped them.

Here's the link to view Ms. Boyle, click here.

And here is Susan Boyle on The Today Show......talking about what's happened since her performance.
